Mooresville is located on the northern edge of Lake Norman, and just 30 minutes north of Charlotte, NC. Mooresville is part of Iredell County, where the taxes are low and the county has two school districts – Iredell Statesville Schools and Mooresville City Schools. The 2013 property tax rate was $.83 outside of town limits and  $1.41 within town limits per one hundred dollars of assessed property value.

The town of Mooresville is known as Race City USA, because it is home to auto racing's most prominent teams and their race shops. Mooresville offers Lake Norman access at public boat launches, through many water front communities and by way of boat and jet-ski rentals. Lake Norman waterfront dining is available at popular spots like the Blue Parrot Grill, Midway Boat House, and the Prickly Pear to name a few. Off water restaurants include Jeffrey’s, Lancaster’s BBQ, Zaika Indian Cuisine and Big Daddy’s Seafood. Shopping in Mooresville includes the popular national chains such as Michaels, Best Buy, Pier One, Marshalls, HH Gregg in addition to one of a kind shops in Downtown Mooresville like American Classic Antiques, Big Hat Larry’s Guitars, Music & More, Thistle Meadow Wines, Mooresville Artist Guild Gallery and more. Downtown Mooresville is also home to popular restaurants Epic Chop House and J.J. Wasabi’s plus year ‘round festivals and Downtown events. For family fun, Mooresville is home to the Lazy 5 Ranch, a privately owned animal ranch unique to the southeast and North Carolina, featuring over 750 animals from all over the world. HISTORY - 
The area that would develop into the town of Mooresville was originally settled by English, German, and Scot-Irish families who moved into the area from nearby Rowan County. Then in 1856, a railroad was placed on a natural ridge that happened to go through the land of a local farmer by the name of John Franklin Moore. A small scale planter, Moore set up a Depot on his land, and encouraged others to help establish a small village on the location in the late 1850s. The little village, known as Moore's Siding was born. The Civil War hampered developments however, with the railroads track being removed to aid the Confederate efforts in Virginia. After the war, the tracks were returned, and Moore's Siding slowly began to prosper. Shortly after the Civil War, John Franklin Moore saw the need to for the village to incorporate into a town. The town was incorporated as Mooresville in 1873. Mr. Moore also helped to establish the first brick making factory in Mooresville, and built some of the first brick buildings on Main Street.
